Monsoon is a sustainability consultancy based in Singapore. Monsoon specialises in sustainability consulting for renewable energy investments in SE Asia, including environmental and social (E&S) due diligence, environmental and social impact assessments, environmental and social management, and issues related to Greenhouse Gas / carbon emissions.

Monsoon works with Clients to identify and manage E&S aspects of their projects or investment decisions. This includes assisting clients to understand and optimize opportunities as presented by environmental markets, such as for carbon credits and renewable energy certificates.

Monsoon has extensive experience with carbon standards and has originated and developed many carbon projects. Monsoon is authorised and has accounts with the GS, VCS and GCC Carbon Standards. We are currently managing twenty carbon projects for seven different clients across the major carbon standards (i.e. GS, VCS, GCC). We have two Grouped Projects registered on VCS, one in Malaysia and one in Indonesia. We have several other project leads that we hope to be able to contract soon.

Monsoon is also an expert in International Renewable Energy Certificates (I-RECs) and manages the I-RECs for over 140 renewable energy projects for various project owners around the world from South Africa to Indonesia. Our portfolio includes power plants in Malaysia and Indonesia.

Our business is growing and we are looking for an additional Carbon Project Manager and Business Development Executive. The role is based remotely in HCMC Vietnam with frequent travel to our project sites in Malaysia and Indonesia. The role is reporting directly to the Managing Director.

Key Responsibilities

  • Managing the development, monitoring and oversight of Monsoon’s portfolio of carbon credit projects (particularly in Malaysia and Indonesia) and assisting with the periodic verification of these projects in accordance with the Carbon Standard’s (Verra) requirements.

  • Managing the identification, screening and contracting of new projects and new clients, particularly related to new carbon projects in Malaysia and Indonesia.

  • Assisting with engaging with potential buyers of carbon credits.

More specifically:

  • Liaison and coordination with project owners to collect information and organize site visits

  • Preparing and maintaining databases for project monitoring data, including performing routine data reviews accurately and independently

  • Overseeing monitoring of projects and working with internal and external stakeholders to maintain accurate records

  • Explaining the process and negotiating with existing and prospective new clients

  • Undertaking carbon feasibility assessments for new prospective projects

  • Monitoring and supporting environmental and social compliance of the projects with relevant regulations and standards following designed mitigation measures

  • Undertaking engagement and consultation with project stakeholders

  • Managing project validation and periodic verification of the projects, including preparing Project Design Documents, Monitoring Reports, Annual Reports, and relevant carbon documentation and analyses

  • Provide accurate and coherent technical support to external stakeholders (e.g., project developers, validation and verification bodies) on matters that come up as part of project implementation, verification, and review, seeking input from colleagues and leadership as needed

  • Developing and maintaining relationships with project teams by providing regular updates, reports, and recommendations to project owners

  • Collaborate with other parties such as Validation Verification Bodies and representatives of relevant Standards during the certification processes

  • Prepare guidance, workshops, and undertake training for project teams regarding carbon certification processes including monitoring plans

  • Supporting carbon credits issuance processes

  • Assisting with identifying and engaging with potential carbon credit buyers, and with negotiating sales contracts

  • Supporting the Director with broader business strategy and overall management

  • Attending industry events and representing Monsoon

  • Complete other tasks as assigned.

Your Profile

  • Education: Minimum of a university undergraduate/bachelor’s degree or equivalent, ideally with a focus on environmental management. Advanced degree preferred.

  • Experience: At least 03 years of experience and interest in sustainability; at least 2 years of experience in business development

  • Experience working in multi-national teams and ideally experience in managing a team, and be comfortable working in a flexible, fast-paced environment.

  • Excellent transparent communication skills, being responsive with the ability to communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders at all levels

  • Great organizational skills, with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects simultaneously

  • Excellent ability to track and adhere to deadlines and perform required reviews with speed, accuracy, and efficiency

  • Able to maintain a high level of professionalism, integrity, and trustworthiness

  • Able to work independently to reach identified goals on a set timeline without sacrificing quality

  • Strong analytical skills, report writing, technical curiosity, proactive, excellent attention to detail

  • Language Requirements: English fluently

  • Must be available to travel for short-term assignments

Desired but not essential:

  • Fluent in Vietnamese

  • Fluent in other languages like Indonesian, Malaysian or Spanish

  • Understanding of knowledge carbon credits and industry standards

  • Experience in undertaking carbon feasibility assessments

  • Experience in selling carbon credits and/or Renewable Energy Certificates

  • Experience in business management
